Become Prophetic When God is Mute

Numbers 13:30–31, 14:1–9 (ESV)

30 But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” 31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”

14:1. Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become a prey. Would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 And they said to one another, “Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”

5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the people of Israel. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”

Disappointed: expectation not fulfilled

Don't have the capacity to deal with disappointment with God

Point the finger at Him

He’s not doing what they thought He should do

     And He’s not saying anything

Some turn back from God

Because they feel like God has turned back from them

Some just decide to stay where they are – won’t move forward

Become stuck

God on Mute

Joshua spoke up…

When God is mute – we are to be spokespersons for Him

We must be a Prophetic People

What does it mean to be Prophetic?

We can speak by inspiration – In Spirit

Acts 2:17. It shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.

John 16:13–14 (ESV)

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

Why is this important that we become Prophetic?

Life is dynamic – so many questions

We need to be “Established in the present truth.” – 2 Peter 1:12

The Prophetic enables you to see… & say…

Joshua saw what others couldn’t see & said what they couldn’t say

“They have no more protection” – Num 14:9

It’s the Prophetic that Speaks to the walls built around your promises and brings them down

You cannot miss your Divine Moment

God deals with us according to seasons (Gen 8:22)

Different things happen in different seasons – Eccl 3 “seasons & times”

Growth, stagnation, fruit-bearing, death, renewal, resurrection

The Prophetic Announces the Season

1 Kings 17:1.  Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word."

The Prophetic tells you how to handle the changing seasons

We must know what to do in each season

We can’t adjust the season – we must adjust for the change in season

·       Where to go – the prophetic keeps us fluid

·       Don’t quit.  Let your fishing nets down again, except in a different place this time

Success in “due season” is determined by what we do in “this season”

The Prophetic gives wisdom & strategy for your Breakthrough

– 2 Kings 4:1-7

The Prophetic restores hope for the future – 2 Kings 4:8-17

The Shunammite couple was old & had given up on having a child (future)

The Prophetic challenges you to Take the Limits Off – 2 Kings 6:1

The sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us.

Isa 54:2-3

Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. 3 For you shall expand to the right and to the left, and your descendants will inherit the nations, and make the desolate cities inhabited.

The Prophetic encourages everyone to do their Part – 2 Kings 6:2

Let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there

The Prophetic helps you recover your cutting edge – 2 Kings 6:5-7

As one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, "Alas, master! For it was borrowed."  6 So the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 7 Therefore he said, "Pick it up for yourself." So he reached out his hand and took it.
