The Judgement Seat of Christ

Matt 12:36-37

But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.  37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

·         Without work, idle, not employed, inactive

2 Cor 5:10 NIV

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

·         Good and bad – not righteous versus evil or sinful

Principles of the Doctrine:  Heb 6:1-2

            Repentance from Dead Works

All that is done through the energy of the flesh is considered as “Dead Works” and is worthless for reward, while all that was done in the power of the Holy Spirit will be rewarded

We are not saved by good works:

Eph 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

2 Cor 5:21

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us,

that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The work of Jesus was complete and is finished:

Heb 10:14

For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

We are sealed in Holy Spirit “until the day of redemption” – Eph 1:13; 4:30; 2 Cor 1:22

When we spend our energies on trying to be good enough to go to heaven

We are trying to finish what Jesus has already finished

We are supposed to be building on the foundation

Let me show you what happens at the Believer’s judgement before
The Judgement Seat of Christ1 Cor 3:10-15

According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is.

14 If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.

15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

This “Day” is not about the judgement for salvation

It is about the judgement of believers, before the Judgment Seat of Christ

Jesus will judge our works since salvation and evaluate them for reward or loss

Too many are afraid of Grace and think Grace means we can do what we want without consequence

1 Cor 11:30-32

For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

Sin will be dealt with – consequences

·         Punished / discipline in the earth

·         Loss of health, strength & life

·         Loss of fellowship

·         Loss of opportunity

·         Loss of reward

We will be rewarded for works indestructible by fire
